Nivea Hamilton pregnant by Lil Wayne

Not only is singer Nivea Hamilton rumored to be pregnant with Lil Wayne’s child, but so is Lauran London, American film and television actress and a model.

Yes, gossip sites say both singer Nivea and model Lauren London are pregnant by the Lollipop rapper, MTV reports. That's right, Lil Wayne, whose real name Dwayne Carter, looks set to have two new sons by different women this year, if reports are accurate.

Lil Wayne is set to marry Nivea in the next few months, Blogger FreddyO claims.

In 2004, Nivea married music producer and solo star The-Dream and in 2005 she gave birth to their daughter and in 2006, twin boys. In December 2007, she filed for divorce.
Wayne himself already has two kids from a previous relationship -- daughter Reginae, 10, and 6-months son Dwayne Carter III.

Reports say he and Lauren London are no longer in a relationship together but plan to raise their baby together.

Nivea Hamilton's Bio
Source: http:/nivea.330.ca/biography.html

Name: Nivea B. Hamilton
Birthdate: 24 March 1982
Star Sign: Aries
Hobbies: Dancing, Singing, and Design
Idol: Oprah Winfrey

It's fitting that Nivea has made her recording debut as a featured vocalist on multi platinum rapper Mystikal's acclaimed chart topping single "Danger" because that's exactly what the bubbly nineteen year old presents to established names in the world of R&B and pop. The attractive singer, whose debut album, "Nivea" previewed by the infectious single "Don't Mess With The Radio" is a triple threat rarely seen by first time artists. She sings writes and acts (not to mention raps) and even serves as an executive producer on the album.

Rarely before has a debut album brimmed with such an unmistakable slew of hit singles, from the dancefloor funk of "Count The Party", produced by Organized Noize (TLC, Outkast), to the warning shot of "If you Mess" produced by Roy Hamilton and the soulful, heartwarming"25 Reasons", produced by DARP (TLC) and co-written by Nivea.

"I think there's such a cross section of material and a wide range of issues I'm singing about that not only teens can relate to it, but all ages" enthuses Nivea. "The great thing about the album, though, is that they all relate to me personally. I really feel everything I sing. All these songs are personal in one way or another.

Nivea Hamilton was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the youngest of three sisters and raised in a musical household. Like most aspiring singers in the south, the church played a pivotal role in bringing the naturally shy Nivea out of her shell. But rather than the choir and the pulpit, it was the TV and a performance by Mariah Carey of her debut single "Vision Of Love" on the Apollo, when Nivea was just seven, that convinced the Atlanta youngster where her own future lay.
"Seeing her really inspired me" Nivea remembers. "I bought her first album, learned all her songs. From then on my life growing up was all about singing. I had a one track mind."

Nivea's dreams started to near fruition upon the introduction to Colin Lampkin, at the time recording studio owner in the Atlanta area, who traded his stake in the business, to manage the then 15 year-old singer on a full time basis. The path they managed to carve over the next two years is a tribute to their commitment to their cause which saw Nivea finally securing a record deal through those tried and trusted bedfellows- hard work and pure talent.

Through CL's contacts and sheer persistence and persuasion, Nivea ended up recording demos and referencing songs for various top rung Atlanta producers. "We just hung out at studios and tried to slide her in any way we could" recalls CL. "In the end we had a 26 song demo completed with a cast list of big name producers, that most record companies would only dream of securing themselves...and it was recorded for virtually nothing!"

Needless to say, word soon spread about Nivea in A&R offices across the country. Both manager and artist had their sights set on Jive Records, though impressed at the company's incredible winning streak through such acts as Britney Spears, R. Kelly, *Nsync, The Backstreet Boys and Joe.

So astounded were the label at Nivea's voice, age and the nature of her demo, that it was only a formality before she put pen to paper. Not, though, before the label contacted some of the producers purported to have worked on Nivea's demo for themselves, to check what they were hearing was, in fact true!

"Yeah it's funny" laughs Nivea now. "The label couldn't believe I worked with all these producers before I got a record deal. I guess it made their job a little easier when it came to signing me." The end result is that an impressive seven songs from Nivea's original demo have made it to the album's final cut, earning the teen and her manager executive producer credits and the position to head their own production company based in the Atlanta area which is already stocked with offices and a recording studio.

Reflecting on her path so far and the glittering career that lies ahead of her, Nivea is reassuringly grounded.

"I haven't had the easiest of upbringings by any means. I've worked very hard for what I've got so far. It's shown me that hard work does pay off. I don't take anything for granted. I know that music and singing is my life. All I wanted was for someone to give me a foot in the door and I'd bust it open for myself. I look at the careers of people like Janet, Aretha and Mariah and that inspires me. That's what I'm aiming for. Now I seem to have that foot in the door, watch me go!"

Must Download:Jay-Z New Song, 'D.O.A.': 'Death Of Auto-Tune'

MTV:
Friday night saw the unveiling of another public service announcement from Jay-Z: "You rappers singing too much/ Get back to rap, you T-Pain-ing too much/ I'm a multi-millionaire/ So how am I the hardest n---a here?"

On New York's Hot 97 radio station, Jay premiered a new song from his forthcoming Blueprint 3 LP called, "D.O.A.," or "The Death of Auto-Tune."

"This is anti-Auto-Tune, death of the Ringtone," Hov begins rapping over a track co-produced by Kanye West and No I.D. Hard drums and horns blaze as Jay conjures images of a black John Dillinger holding a smoking Tommy Gun, laying down a fool ignorant enough to stand in his way. Jay is back to kill biting MCs.

"This ain't for iTunes, this ain't for singalongs," he raps later in the song. "This is Sinatra at the opera, bring a blonde ... My raps don't have melodies/ It should make jackers commit felonies/ This ain't a #1 record, this is practically assault with a deadly weapon."

Last month, Kanye West told MTV News about Jay-Z's stance against Auto-Tune, the vocal effect used extensively by T-Pain and by West himself on his latest album, 808s and Heartbreak.

"We actually removed all the songs with Auto-Tune off of his album," West said, "to make the point that this is an anti-Auto-Tune album, even though I released an album that has all Auto-Tune!"

Later on Friday night, Jay called into Funkmaster Flex and Mister Cee at Hot 97's studios to explain that he's taking aim at artists who use Auto-Tune as a crutch. He also compared the vocal enhancement usage by rappers to wearing throwback sports jerseys back in the day: Everybody started to wear them and they got played out.

"I think I said something important," he said, adding that he spoke out "only on the aspect of moving [the conversation] forward," and elaborated about who he was not going at.

"The guys who did it, did it great," he explained. "T-Pain, he does great melodies. If you listen to Kanye, great melodies. If you listen to [West's] 'Say You Will' or 'Heartless,' great melodies. [Lil Wayne and T-Pain's] 'Lollipop' was a fantastic melody. Everybody can't do it. Let them guys do it. They got their little niche, let's move on. That's just my opinion. I don't know if everybody feels the same way."

The Brooklyn MC said his intention with the record was to "draw [a] line in the sand."

The Jiggaman confirmed that his long-awaited Blueprint 3 is coming out via a new partnership with Atlantic Records; the album is expected to be released on September 11. They will handle the distribution for the album, which is housed on Hova's Roc Nation.

"I got the foundation and I'm ready to blast off," he said.

"I bought my album back — I overpaid for it," he added about recently ending his long stint with Def Jam Records. "I believe at this point in my career, I wanted to be totally independent and free in what I wanted to do. Def Jam and Universal, they did a beautiful thing in letting me pay. They overcharged me a little bit, but I appreciate all the years they put into my career ... I could never have a [traditional] record deal. I'm working with Atlantic, they gonna distribute the album and they're doing a fantastic job. I get a chance to connect with the people I started my career with. It's almost like poetic justice."

Expect more from Jay soon. DJ Skee took to Twitter to say that the first official single from Blueprint 3 will be "On That," featuring Drake. Jay wasn't asked and didn't speak on that song, but he did talk a little bit about the album's feel.

"The vibe I'm on is, stripping it down and bringing it back classic," Jay said. "I hear people, I gotta get back in my square and really let people know what time it is really quick."

Jay — who gave a surprise performance in Los Angeles with Eminem on Monday — kicks off his tour with Ciara in Las Vegas on July 3.

[Artist] N.E.R.D.:Seeing Sound Album

Check your iPod. If you don’t have any N.E.R.D. tracks (and if that’s true, then you need to get on it, so read on to avoid further pitying), then dollars to donuts, you’ve got something they’ve applied their Midas touch to as the Neptunes — their production operation. Madonna and Britney, Ludacris, Snoop, and Kanye — they’re currently backing him on his much-lauded Glow In the Dark tour. Hell, they’ve even remixed Sade.
Or, put another way: open up the Billboard charts, close your eyes and randomly point to an artist. Now open them. There’s an excellent chance the brain trust behind N.E.R.D. produced, remixed or will remix and/or produce that artist, taking already solid material to a new dimension you didn’t know existed but suddenly need a whole lot more of — the flavor of dream you’re not sure is the good or bad type, but you know it tastes better than being awake.
N.E.R.D. is Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shae Haley. Like a giant squid fused with a set of conjoined octopus twins, the end result of N.E.R.D.’s time spent behind the controls sounds like they’ve got a lot more than just six hands and 30 fingers on deck. And the tracks snap, crackle and pop with the hyperstimulated sizzle of sticking all 30 into 30 different electrical sockets.
“With the Neptunes,” N.E.R.D.’s Chad Hugo told Hamptonroads.com, “we have that ability to collaborate with artists, and they have their vision and we’re there to paint different scenarios. As N.E.R.D., what we put out is directly from our brains to the stage. We’re in our own shoes. We have the ability to be ourselves.” Right. Which is why they’re about to drop their third N.E.R.D. album, Seeing Sounds, (out tomorrow), named for the neurological phenomenon synesthesia, where your senses basically swap shoes for the day. The album’s a celebration of their genre-resistant, chopped-and-screwed, tilted-and-twisted sound, complete with that hypnotic sawtooth bass swagger, dirty-ass drumming, superfunked, sexed-up, spaced-out blips, beeps and bumps.
We always suspected these guys saw things we don’t. Turns out they see everything we don’t. And with N.E.R.D. — forever the sickest and coolest kids you know — piloting their musical spacecraft into complete sensory overload, we get to explore a whole new galaxy of songs, sounds and sights we’d never otherwise hear… or taste.
Watch N.E.R.D.’s new video, “Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing In Line for the Bathroom),” plus a few all-time N.E.R.D. classics, check out their MTV.com live peformances, watch an exclusive Buzzworthy interview with the Va Bee three, watch their exclusive Artist of the Week videos — including performance clips shot at Special Sauce in Bayshore, New York — and road trip clips, featuring Donnell Rawlings (Ashy Larry of Chappelle’s Show.)

After Pharrell Williams's pedestrian solo debut and some lacklustre production work (Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape), it seemed as though Williams and his Neptunes/N.E.R.D partner Chad Hugo had lost their vice-like grip on inventive pop. Happily, their new album suggests a thrilling second act. Flanked by fellow bandmember Shay Haley, they are again pushing the boundaries of the popular song. From Everybody Nose, a horn-looped look at Hollywood's re-infatuation with cocaine, to the drum'n'bass-meets-baile-funk of Spaz, this album is a superb reminder of why we fell in love with them in the first place.

Do You Know ! Real Rap G-Unit present Part 2

Rap group G-Unit have just premiered a new music video for their single "Rider Part 2" on May 28 . The clip was the follow up for their first clip "I Like The Way She Do It", that has just been outed on May 12.
The new clip only features the three remaining members of the group, 50 Cent, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks. The video at first actually also sees another rapper, Young Buck, but for some reasons Buck's involvements on the clip and on other G-Unit's songs have been excluded by the group.
The single itself is being set as the second from the rappers' upcoming new album after dropping "I Like The Way She Do It" as the first one. Beside being featured on "Terminate on Sight" the song is also available at the group's mixtape titled "Elephant in the Sand".

Mary J. Blige : Breakthrough

About Mary

Over the course of 15 years, with a voice that is rough and ready, sweet and pure, Mary J. Blige is capable of conveying heartache and happiness in a single musical phrase. A confessional singer, her emotional honesty reflects the great traditions of blues and soul with a ripped-from-the-pages-of-your-diary immediacy that has won her countless honors and a devoted, ever-growing audience around the world.

Nobody tells it like Mary. She delivers fan-pleasing, trademark, straight-up messages to players, cheaters and fools with serenity, conviction and compassion.
Nobody tells it like Mary. She delivers fan-pleasing, trademark, straight-up messages to players, cheaters and fools with serenity, conviction and compassion.

Wilson Louis from Miami, FL asked: Compared to all your other albums, what's different about Breakthrough? Mary J: "The Breakthrough is different because I am no longer going around the pain of self-healing and slowly healing. I'm quick to looking at what's wrong and i try to fix it."

Hope Woodson from New Haven, CT asked: What was your inspiration for "Be Without You"? Are you going through what you are singing? Mary J: "Yes, I always go through this because our personalities are different and sometimes will clash and misunderstand each other, which causes arguments, but I'd rather be with him as long as he respects me."

Felisa Wallace from Detroit, MI asked:
What is your favorite song from your new album? Mary J: "I have 4: "Good Woman Down", "Enough Crying", "Take Me As I Am", and "Baggage".

Matthew Bavotto from St. Paul, MN asked:
Who is your favorite artist? Favorite album? Mary J: "Don't have one. Have way too many to name."

Niema Darod from Northolt, England asked: My mum loves you and wants to know how you keep so fit and young?! Mary J: "Praying for the strength to have the willpower to train daily and diet. Resting and lots of water." Levar Lewis from Virginia asked: What is your diet like? Mary J: "Not starving myself. Six small lite meals a day and they all include brown rice or wheat bread."

DeMetria Moaning from Boley, Oklahoma asked:
How do you keep it hot after so many years on the scene? How do you keep up the style evolution? Mary J: "Be myself and nobody else. And wear what works for me and not for someone else."

Antonette from Los Angeles asked:
Who inspired you to start singing? How did you start your career and what advice do you have for an aspiring singer? Mary J: "People in my neighborhood inspired me to sing. Believe in your ability no matter what, but be realistic with yourself and your ability."

Geneva from Bronx, N.Y. asked:
Some women, such as myself, listen to music when they have a bad day. What do you do to relax? Mary J: "I lay down and pray and ask God for forgiveness if I've done anything to anyone, then I forgive everyone else for hurting me."

D. Rose from Dallas, TX asked: Through all your struggles, what or who kept you motivated to face another day? Mary J: "My fans and God!!"

Thabo from East London asked:
What motivates your to write and sing such beautiful deep soulful songs? Mary J: "Life and trials."

Rasheeda from Bridgetown, Barbados asked: Do you regret anything you've done in your career? Mary J: "No, I've learned so much from all my mistakes. I just wish I had gotten my education."

Angel Mcclurken from Greensboro, NC asked:
What is the one thing that you think about everyday that keeps you going and gives you that extra push? Mary J: "God loves me and sent his son to die for me so I have to live to please him because he saved me when everyone abandoned me."

Overview New Album

At the end of 2005, Mary J. Blige's career was supposed to be anthologized. The singer had her way, however, and one of her best studio albums came out instead. In retrospect, her previous album, 2003's Love & Life, was awkward; the P. Diddy collaborations, likely intended to recapture the magic the duo put together on What's the 411? and My Life, didn't always pay off, and Blige was about to become a wife, so the songs steeped in heartbreak and disappointment weren't delivered with as much power as they had been in the past. The Breakthrough also contains some of the drama that fans expect, despite Blige's continued happiness, but it's clear that she has gained enough distance from the uglier parts of her past that she can inhabit them and, once again, deliver those songs. The past does play a significant role in the album, as in "Baggage," where she apologies to her husband for bringing it into their relationship. "Father in You" sounds like a note-perfect facsimile of a classic soul ballad, rising and falling and twisting with a sensitive string arrangement, but the lyrics are pure Blige, acknowledging the ways in which her husband has made up for the absence of her father. On the nearly anthemic "Good Woman Down," she sees a less matured version of herself in young women and uses her experiences to advise. She jacks the beat from the Game's "Hate It or Love It" for "MJB da MVP," where she reflects on her career, thanks her supporters, and reasserts her rightful position as the soul hip-hop queen. It's one of several tracks to beam with a kind of contentment and confidence that Blige has never before possessed. Take "Can't Hide from Love," where she's such a force that Jay-Z dishes out a quick introduction and knows to stay out of the way for the remainder of the track, or the glorious "I Found My Everything," her "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." Beat for beat, the album features the best round of productions Blige has been handed since the mid-'90s. Apart from only a couple lukewarm tracks and a poorly recorded version of "One" with U2, it is completely correct. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

GIRLICIOUS

PUSSYCAT DOLLS PRESENT: GIRLICIOUS made the dreams of four young female hopefuls a reality when judges Robin Antin, Lil’ Kim and Ron Fair announced them as members of the newly formed recording group, Girlicious, on the season finale of The CW’s music/reality series last night.

Tiffanie Anderson, 18, of Los Angeles, California; Nichole Cordova, 18, of Houston, Texas; Natalie Mejia, 19, of Diamond Bar, California and Chrystina Sayers, 20, of San Diego, California beat out thousands of girls to become part of Girlicious. Originally, Girlicious was planned as a three-person group, but judges decided the four finalists were so good together that the group was expanded. Signed to Geffen Records, the girls have already recorded their first album and filmed their first music video. The group’s first single and music video, “Like Me,” made its world premiere following the airing of the finale episode. Though the reality show recently ended, the girls have been recording their debut album, “Girlicious,” since fall of 2007, which is scheduled to drop on July 1.

Looking for singers with dance ability and superstar charisma, Antin and Geffen Records Chairman Ron Fair launched a nationwide search for the most talented girls in America. Fifteen finalists were chosen to compete for a spot in the new group and the opportunity to go from obscurity to international stardom.

Thousands of girls lined up with the dream of landing one of three coveted spots in the new band Girlicious. Each week the girls had to sing, dance and practice choreography with Antin and Pussycat Dolls co-choreographer Mikey Minden, as well as perfect their vocal techniques to impress the judges.

Lil Mama : Agian!

Fittingly enough, "Life" is the next single from Mama's upcoming debut, Voice of the Young People.

"'Life' is really a deep joint," the rapper said. "I have so many joints on my album, but what makes them a part of the album is that people have a chance to get into you more. And they should get the album to get into you more. A lot of the singles are really fun and something that everybody is gonna love. But I also have faith in my deep records to come out [as singles] and one day I'm gonna see to it that [they do]."

[Review] Lil Wayne : Lollipop

From Henry Adaso, About.com

Despite Lil Wayne's status as one of the game's most ubiquitous voices, he isn't exactly inventing anything here with the candy-as-sexual-innuendo analogy.

"Lollipop"

For an artist who subtly thrives in the shadow of another well-known rapper, it should come as no surprise that the idea for Lil Wayne's new single is anything but. Think of "Lollipop" as a sonic rendezvous between Britney's "Piece of Me" and Snoop's "Sensual Seduction," with Roger Troutman as the liaison.

Wayne often disguises his deficiencies as a lyricist by relying on funny accents and weird phrases. But on "Lollipop" he doesn't rap at all. Why rap when there's a host of other options. Instead, we get 5 minutes of a yawn-inducing performance from the self-named "best rapper alive." His singing, filtered through an autotuner and a vocoder a la Snoop's "Sensual Seduction," is layered over a dense smörgåsbord of spacey synths and slow-rolling drums. Call it the T-Pain effect. And don't get me started on the lyrics which offer nothing worth revisiting. "She lick me like a lollipop"? Really? Didn't 50 Cent already exploit that candy-as-sexual-metaphor concept on "Candy Shop"?

While preparing for this review, I briefly entertained the silly thought that Wayne set out to prove a point with "Lollipop." He's Lil Wayne, after all, and he's reached that stratum of rapdom where rules don't apply to protagonists. He can say whatever he wants, release songs however he wants, and get extolled by that wide cross-section of hip-hop fans that will inevitably line up for some Weezy idiosyncrasies, no matter how craptacular. What's next? A song where he farts over a drum-track for three minutes?

[Review] RICK ROSS BOSS Ft. T-PAIN : TRILLA Att.MV & DOWNLOADS

Rick Ross - Trilla
Album Review by: John Burnett

I've come to a disheartening and perplexing conclusion. I—like many rap heads—am addicted to crack rap. After mad years of hearing the same embellished Tony Montana motifs play out over different beats I still enjoy hearing properly executed rhymes about the wanton exploits of your respective neighborhood medicine man. And judging from the sales that are attached to some of these coke-laden rap discs, so do you. The narrator on this occasion happens to be Rick Ross and the cinematic experience is Trilla.

Based off of Port of Miami, I predicted two things for what I’d hear on Trilla. There was going to be some dope beats and probably a few (much sarcasm intended) references to coke. I was right about both but there was also an added bonus. Coming out on the back end, I’ve come to the realization either Rick Ross acquired an ill ghostwriter or dude’s flow has vastly improved. On the Bink! produced (and eerily Roc-A-Fella nostalgia inducing) “We Shinin’” I caught a surprise blow to the chin by the quote “am I a target for police because I puff E/not an artist I’m regarded as a Puffy/like a pimp I’mma skip past a Kim Porter/like a pimp order, pimp, I import her.” I mean this is Rick Ross right? The flow doesn’t fall off either with Ross tucked neatly between the church-like organs and wailing sample. Then there’s the literal gangster role call provided on the “Trilla Intro” where Ross oddly proclaims he’s rhyming with kush and lean on his breath. In the most sinister way possible Ross gruffly barks “I don’t give a fuck about death/cause death don’t give a fuck about flesh/cause flesh don’t give a fuck about mine/and never gave fuck about mine.”

By Julian Ryall

TOKYO (Hollywood Reporter) - A ballad from Madonna's upcoming album will provide the theme music for a new Japanese television show, the first time the pop diva has licensed a tune for a TV drama here.

The song, "Miles Away," will be used for the show "Change," which is scheduled to begin airing in April. It is taken from Madonna's "Hard Candy" album, which is set for release here April 30.

The show stars local heartthrob Takuya Kimura in the tale of a small-town elementary school teacher who is suddenly -- if improbably -- propelled into the position of prime minister of Japan. Madonna met Kimura when she appeared as a guest on the his "SMAPxSMAP" variety show in 2005.

Live: Trey Songz and J. Holiday

Trey Songz is the sensitive and attentive, designer clothes-wearing dreamboat, seen here performing in 2006.

The pair bring ballads and hip-hop to the House of Blues.

By Serena Kim, Special to The Times

It's the moment that the rabid female fans in the audience have been salivating for at the Trey Songz and J. Holiday show Friday at the House of Blues: Songz is finally going to take his shirt off. It couldn't have come any sooner, because he had pretty much lost the crowd to this point with a lackluster performance that dwelled too long on dreary R&B ballads.

But could he redeem himself?

Songz robotically unbuttons his shirt. He seems unhappy or perhaps tired. The live five-piece band sounds slightly offbeat and off-key, but the familiarity of the hook to "Last Time" is enough to save it.
He coyly pulls his tuxedo over his shoulder, then puts it back.

"Spread your lovely legs out," he urges in a sultry tremolo about the temptations of infidelity, "I know your favorite is the kitchen." The ladies scream in anticipation.

By the end of "I Gotta Go," Songz recommandeers the crowd, leading them through an easy, swaying two-step as he sings about the forces of attraction keeping him from his obligations outside the love chamber. "I don't want to leave," he cries. "I don't want to go right now!"

At long last, he rips off his white tank top, revealing a V-shaped torso and a washboard stomach. Pay dirt.

Trey Songz and J. Holiday represent two different R&B archetypes.

Songz is the sensitive and attentive, designer clothes-wearing dreamboat. Holiday the more dangerous thug crooner with the requisite grainier vocal texture and countrified flavor. So there's something for everyone.

When Holiday emerges on the light-speckled stage, it's clear that the energy level is going to be much higher. He doesn't just stick to his own repertoire but instead acts as a kind of emcee, hyping up the crowd as his band plays thigh-pumping breaks of songs culled from a vast, collective hip-hop consciousness, such as "Pop Bottles," "Before I Let You Go" and "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)." The musicians play with fury, as though they were raised on some unholy combination of Quiet Riot and Bad Brains.

And though the tempo slows at times, the emotional intensity of Holiday's performance does not. He performs "Laa Laa," his ode to cannabis, while sitting on a stool and bathed in saffron light, bringing to mind D'Angelo's "Brown Sugar." Then with a twist of wordplay, he transitions to another song about breathing, or lack thereof: "Suffocate." "Got me looking at this phone," he admits. "Every time it rings, I hope it's you, girl."

Channeling a preacher cadence, Holiday asks, "How many freaks do we got in the building?" The quasi-churchiness melds into a crunk-punk interpretation of his most anticipated song, the erotically titled "Bed," as thousands of dollar bills come raining down from the ceiling for the final performance.

And, yes, he takes his shirt off too. But that's beside the point.

Swedish pop star Robyn gets her groove back

By Mitchell Peters
LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Some could label her a rebel, but Robyn might best be described as a teen pop survivor of the music industry.
In the years after her U.S. breakthrough in the late 1990s, the Swedish singer had nearly abandoned hopes of maintaining a successful career. But more than a decade later, Robyn will return to the American music scene with a self-titled album that's hits shelves April 29 via Konichiwa/Cherrytree/Interscope.

"It is definitely like getting a second chance," Robyn says. "I had scrapped all my ideas of being an international artist again, because I was scared of the music industry."

The 29-year-old singer's 1997 U.S. debut, "Robyn Is Here" (RCA) produced such hits as "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know (What It Takes)." But when it came time to release a follow-up studio album in the States, to the dismay of record labels, Robyn insisted on moving away from her pop-focused sound. In turn, the labels declined to release her new material.

During the next several years, while signed to BMG in Sweden, Robyn was able to live comfortably by releasing a handful of overseas-only albums. But something was missing in the music. "I was always forced to conform to the structure of the major industry," she says. "I just wanted to detach myself. I wanted to start over."

Second chances are rare for most artists, but not impossible, as Robyn has set out to prove. More than a decade has passed since the U.S. release of "Robyn Is Here," which has sold 922,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Even so, her American fan base is as vibrant as ever. Interest was reignited after the 2007 U.K. release of Robyn's electro-heavy self-titled album, which first came out in Sweden in 2005 via the artist's Konichiwa Records.
"All of these international blogs and music sites quickly started to pick up on the music," Robyn says. "It really gave me the courage to believe there was an audience out there for me."

The new set finds Robyn collaborating with members of fellow Swede acts the Knife and Teddybears, among others. After shopping the self-titled disc to U.K. labels and then being rejected, Robyn decided to release the album through Konichiwa, which she founded in 2004. After the love-addled single "With Every Heartbeat" went to No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles chart, "all of the labels that said 'no' in the beginning came back," says Robyn, who eventually signed a joint venture with Island in the United Kingdom.

Robyn recently contributed vocals to a track by rapper Snoop Dogg, singing the chorus on the remix of his single "Sexual Eruption."

A three-week U.S. theater tour is scheduled to begin April 26 in Miami and wrap May 17 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

Rick Ross On #1 Trilla Beating Out Snoop, Fat Joe: 'I Told Them We Bossin' Up'

'I knew I had to come back and sculpt me a masterpiece,'
rapper says of sophomore effort.

By Shaheem Reid

Rick Ross didn't grind on the underground for more than 12 years just to solidify his spot in the rap game and then come up short. The man who calls himself the Boss (well, more like the Bawwwse!) is enjoying being two for two.

"That's two number-ones," Ross said Tuesday in a phone call from the road. Just like his 2006 debut, Port of Miami, his second LP, Trilla, has hit #1 on the Billboard albums chart in its first week of release. He bested other debuts by Snoop Dogg and his good friend Fat Joe.

"I told them we bossin' up," Ross said. "We grinding it out. Trilla! I'm just trying to get ahead and make bigger moves. It's that movement. The industry is still there. That's what that shows."

Last week, Ross, Snoop and Joe were all in New York partying and promoting their releases.

"I gotta be open for competition in this business," Ross said of coming out the same week as his more experienced peers. "I looked at it from the angle of 'I'm a n---a in the game with a hot first album and potential for greatness.' I looked at Snoop and Fat Joe as legends with careers. To say you had a career in this business is big. I knew I had to come back and sculpt me a masterpiece. I didn't grind 10 years to get here and lose. So I just wanted to step it up. I made the production more soulful. The record's a little more meaningful, and I stepped my flows up to challenge whoever at the top."

Ross laughed when asked what the follow-up to "Speedin' " and his current single, "The Boss" (featuring T-Pain), would be. He hasn't decided yet, but he feels his hand is loaded with possibilities.

"You know, we got multiple choices right here. Trilla! That's one thing the album is full of, next moves," he said. " 'Luxury Tax' could definitely be a next move. 'Maybach Music' could be a next move. 'Here I Am' could be a next move. 'All I Have in This World' with Mannie Fresh. I think it's a decision we're gonna make within the next week. I'm just in the clubs touching the people in the streets. These are the people I make the music for, and I'm just seeing what they are absorbing."

Even though Ross is known for party records and for detailing his exploits in the drug trade, he strikes a different tone on "I'm Only Human," his most personal and favorite song from Trilla.

The Trilla tour is supposed to kick off sometime in mid-April or May. Flo Rida, he said, is being lined up, in addition to some other names. Ross also made guest appearances on current LPs by Webbie and Danity Kane, as well as Brass Knuckles, Nelly's upcoming project.
